In the past, a colleagues of mine came asking me to lend her money. I was kinda surprised that she, at the age of mid 30, didn't have enough cash to survive until her pay day. At that time, I was totally ok to lend money to people if they can only return the $$$ back on time.
The time frame was given by her, at her convenience timing. She told me she can only pay back on payday (it was quite reasonable) and I was totally fine with it. So that was the first time she borrowed money (SGD $50) from me. And she told me not to tell others about her borrowing money from me. I said okay.
Weeks had passed and it was soon payday. She quickly rush to pass me during payday. I was happy to get my money back! So I thought.. "She is really a good honest lady and by keeping her promises which makes me feel that she is sincere in her words.
Another week or so had passed. One day, she came to me and she said she was broke already. She was in need of money (SGD $100) and promise that she will pay on the next payday. I didn't think twice about it. I just nodded my head and said okay.
During payday, she returned me the (SGD $100). I was happy again for the promises she made. But I told myself not to lend any money to people because I don't like it.
However, a week later.. She came to me and ask for more $$$. She was urgently asking for SGD$250 and said that she needed the money to buy her son textbooks.. She told me she will promise to return me the SGD $250 during the payday. I was abit hesitant about lending the money to her because I've never lend more than a hundred bucks to anyone before. However I felt that she was really helpless, she was looking very anxious and I could feel she was really in need of the money.
At that point of time, she came to me with another colleague. She told me the other colleagues also want to borrow money from me SGD$700 plus. And her colleagues promise to return me the next day.
At first I didn't want to lend any money to anyone. But at the time I was too good and kind to everyone. I just smile and ask them to return me on time. So yeah, I went to Standard Chartered Bank to withdraw the money.
The next day, the colleagues returned the SGD$700 plus. Which actually making me didn't sleep well on the previous night. I guessed I was too afraid that he might run away from me. Lucky me!
Some days, she gone to bali for holiday. And one of my close colleagues went to Facebook and saw her taking pictures in bali. (I did tell my colleagues about she came to me and ask for money). So my close colleague said, "Eh she took your money go bali enjoy hols". Wahahas I laughed. He was joking!
Weeks had passed. The payday finally came and I was waiting her to return my money. She told me she can't pay me because she got no money to pay. I told her what about your pay? You just gotta your pay? She told me she promise to pay me the next following payday.
At that point of time, I was abit anxious about my money. I told her clearly to pay me the SGD$250. She said yes she will pay me on the following payday.
Fast forward, it was payday again. And this time round she gotta different excuses. She told me the bank came after her because she owed bank money due to her credit card money. She said she owed the bank credit card money for about 2 years.. And yes, all shits came when it comes to returning me money. I was really angry at that time and I was serious about the money that she owed me. I told her I gave her another month to pay up. She apologized to me and promise me to return on the next pay day.
I remembered it was January 2013. As the next month was coming to Chinese New Year. I told her to pay me back before cny and she agreed.
However, during the next payday itself. She told me all sorts of excuses. She came telling me she was broke and really really promise me to return when she got money.
I was utterly disappointed with her. Because at the start of everything, I trusted her words. And I believed I had given her enough time to return the SGD$250. The amount isn't huge, not as if SGD$2.5K or SGD$250K. She can have the cheek to tell me to give her more time??
So I gave her the final date to return me my money which is the next payday. At last she returned my money on the payday.
From that incident onwards, I decided not to lend money to people again. I became serious shits when people came to me for money.
Recently, I just got to know that my boyfriend's friend owe my boyfriend money. SGD$8K!!! That stupid asshole friend of his.. I really don't know why this type of people stull exists??? Are they dumb or what? No money what for drive a big car? You may look good but your pocket don't. Spend on what you need than what you want dude!
